  It
was hot coffee and seasonal muffins for the tenants of National City

NCT 2007 Annual Pumpkin Carving

A
Spook-tacular Contest! |
|
National City Tower's lobby was a celebratory Halloween sight this
week with the Tower's tenants particpating in the annual
Pumpkin
Decorating Contest! Twelve ghoulish designs were entered this year, with designs ranging
from spooky (Humana Claims Pendings Dept's witch stirring her brew)
to supportive (Louisville Regional Airport Authority's pink ribbon)
and just plain incredibly edible (Sheffer Law Firms's cheeseburger)!
This year's winner (by a ghastly margin!) was the Witch and Her Brew, created by
Humana Claim's Pending - 17th floor. The witch was a popular choice, receiving $246.19 worth of votes!
This year's contest was deciding upon by "voting" - donations to your favorite pumpkin to benefit the American
Cancer Society (in honor of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month).
The Tower's donation goal for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest was $500.00, and at the end
of the voting, a generous $885.89 was received.
The winner will receive a lunch party for all participating decorators and all donations were presented to the
American Cancer Society on behalf of National City Tower and its Tenants.
Thank you to everyone who participated and made the contest so successful (and fun)!

Pink! - The Tower celebrates National
Breast Cancer Month (October 2006) |
 |
October
is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National City Bank has
teamed up with M&J Wilkow to encourage all Tower employees to show
their support! On September 25th, we handed out flyers with important
Awareness event dates (join us on October 4th on the Plaza for a very
special kick-off!), pink highlighters to circle the dates on your
calendar, and pink donuts - a sweet reminder to get behind this very
important cause. |

Picnic on
the Plaza – Friday, July 14th, 2006 |

|
After postponing due to rainy weather and crossing our fingers that the storms would hold off this time around,
National City Tower held it’s first Picnic on the Plaza of 2006 on Friday, July 14th. Tower employees enjoyed sitting outside
listening to rock music by the Vinyl Kings and a tasty grilled lunch from Cravings. The Vinyl Kings played a fantastic two-hour set and
with the beautiful weather and energetic music, it was hard not to get up and dance.
Check out National City Tower’s Calendar of Events often to see when the
next Picnic on the Plaza will take place!

| Arbor Day 2006 |
National City Tower celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, April 28th by priming its green thumb just in time for spring and summer!
Tower employees and visitors were treated to the Bonsai Society’s trimming demonstration, as well as one-on-one advice and information from the organization’s president, Earl Ekman. The organization brought several trees of different sizes, ages, and types to share with NCT.
Brightside attended in part to promote their 20th birthday and to sell raffle tickets for a $30,000 landscaping makeover, their Birthday Greenscape Giveaway. Brightside, formed by Mayor Jerry Abramson in 1986, promotes and organizes community and neighborhood-wide cleanups, as well as civic projects that lead towards a more “clean, green, and environmentally aware” Louisville.
Cynthia Knapek and Diana Alvey of Brightside donated a “knock-out” rose bush and the Bonsai Society supplied a bonsai tree to give away to two lucky employees of the Tower. Congratulations to National City Bank’s Maureen Currier, who won the rose bush, and to Jo Ann Conrad of Todd Investments, who won the potted bonsai tree!
|
| 2006 Annual Jelly Bean Contest |
 |
We filled 3,280 jelly beans in a jar and asked National City Tower employees to make their best guess as to how many were in there. After almost two weeks and over 600 guesses, we had a winner!
Congratulations to Dawn Quincy from Humana’s 28th floor! Dawn’s estimate of 3,284 jelly beans came closest to the amount we had in the jar: 3,280. Dawn won the jar and all of the jelly beans, and also a $25.00 gift card to several area restaurants.
In the more than 600 entries, the most popular guess was that there were 2006 jellybeans. The range of guesses included 300 to over 50,000 jelly beans!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by the jar in the Lobby to participate. |
| Halloween Pumpkin Carving Winners |
 |
First Place went to The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis for their outstanding portrayal of Alan Greenspan. A great tribute to his retirement. |
 |
Second Place went to Humana on the 21st floor. "The Louisville Ness Monster" is yet another reason why you shouldn't fish in the Ohio River. |
 |
Third Place went to The Regional Airport Authority's Meter Reader "Winter Winds Will Blow, Heads Will Roll"! Maybe that should be LG&E's new
slogan this winter! |
|
|

Cafeteria Under New Management |
Cravings Cafeteria, located in the lower level of National City Tower, is now being managed by the same familiar people who own and manage the Colonnade Cafeteria in the Starks Building. Chuck and Joe Krill are very familiar with the cafeteria business having served downtown Louisville from their Starks Building location since 1996.
The Colonnade is popular not only for its lunches, but also for its catering, and Cravings will make available extensive catering options to the tenants of National City Tower.
Aside from management, the familiar faces at Cravings will stay the same. A new addition to the cafeteria's line up is the "Specials Bar." Each day the chef will prepare something tailored to the individual customer, from pasta to stir fry to tacos. Cravings is also offering “made from scratch” soups.
The cafeteria's hours are 7:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. We believe you will find Cravings not only convenient, but also a tasty choice for breakfast or lunch! |
Home of the Innocents |

To honor the relationship we have with our tenants and our appreciation of them, National City Tower made a donation to the Home of the Innocents during the holiday season. The money was to help with the center's playground fund. A second donation was made, also on behalf the National City Tower tenants representing a portion of sales from the December Books Are Fun book sale held in the lobby. Carla Cates, NCT's General Manager is shown in the above picture presenting the check to the Director of Home of the Innocents, Gordon Brown. Also in the picture is the center's Director of Resource Development, Linda Medley. For more information on Home of the Innocents, visit their web page at www.homeoftheinnocents.org |

The Results are In!!!
Th In 2003, NCT's tenants out did themselves. The Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest was a "smashing" success!! Congratulations go to all the entrants and it was a very difficult decision for our judges. The Grand Prize Winner was the Humana IT Department and their "Graveyard".

9/11, A Day of Service
On September 11th, NCT honored the Louisville Metro Police and Firefighters with breakfast in the lobby. Unfortunately our celebration was shortened by a fire alarm which had our honored guests heading off to once again be our local heroes! During the lunch hours we gave our tenants an opportunity to give back to the community with our first Community Service Fair in the lobby.

The building's management staff gave away free red, white, and blue necklaces and hats, helping to add to the stars and stripes decorations.
New Plaza Furniture

National City Tower's plaza is now equipped with tables and chairs for our tenants' use and enjoyment. Several of the tables have umbrellas to offer a little shade. Enjoy the summer sun on the plaza!!
Jelly Bean Contest
While Mr. Peter Cottontail was viewing Thunder Over Louisville, he was abducted! It seems the fireworks muffled his screams for help. There were no witnesses. A ransom note and a jar of jelly beans were found at the scene. The note read:
"We have the rabbit. If you want him back by Easter, guess the correct number of jelly beans in the jar, without removing the cork. Get your answer to us by noon on Friday, April 18th, or the rabbit is replaced with a NEW bunny!"
Thanks to Betty Gribbens of Greenebaum Doll & McDonald, Peter Cottontail has been saved. Betty guessed 2,212 jelly beans and there were 2,196. She received the jar and a $100 gift certificate to Kroger. Congratulations!

National City Tower donates flag to Abraham Lincoln Elementary.
Located at 930 E. Main Street, Abraham Lincoln Elementary is passed by many of our tenants on their morning commute. Many may have noticed that their flag was faded and graying and had proudly flown outside the school for several years. On an early August morning, Carla Cates, General Manager of National City Tower, noticed the flag on her daily commute and offered to donate a new flag on behalf of NCT and our tenants.
On September 4th, the building management staff presented the flag to Abraham Lincoln Elementary during a very patriotic school assembly. The children sang "God Bless America" and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the new flag. NCT hopes to do more community projects with our neighbor on Main Street, Abraham Lincoln Elementary.
